The ideal candidate will be personable, have a good work ethic, and able to follow department regulations and standards. In addition, the incumbent has successfully completed a Food Handling Course and holds a diploma from a recognized college; a red seal designation is an asset, as is experience with seniors. Availability to work various shifts will be required.

The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Preparing and cooking meals for senior residents of a retirement residence according to the menus in place;
  • Providing special diet requirements;
  • Assisting/supervising the dietary staff while ensuring a clean and safe work environment is maintained;
  • General kitchen duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Maintenance and servicing of equipment, furnishings, fixtures and outside grounds.
  • General maintenance around the facility (i.e. mechanical) repairs, patchwork, painting, plumbing and minor electrical work.
  • Performs general carpentry work and repairs such as installing floor and wall tiles, repairing drywall, replacing doors and door hardware, repairing roof leaks, painting, installing wallpaper and other redecorating tasks.
  • Must adhere to established policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire safety and environment and infection control.
  • Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or delegate.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Must have mechanical aptitude and be able to read and write the English language.
  • Experience in patchwork, painting and wallpapering preferred

KEY QUALIFICATIONS (but not limited to):

  • Degree or diploma from an accredited university or college in Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Current registration as a registered nurse or registered practical nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current Medication Administration Certificate, which meets the College of Nurses Standards of Practice.  Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate.
  • Minimum of 3 years geriatric and management experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation governing the long-term care sector, for example, Long Term Care Homes Act, Residents’ Bill of Rights, employment standards. KEY QUALIFICATIONS (but not limited to):

  • Post-secondary degree from a program that is a minimum of three years in duration, or

  • Quality control of menu products such as tasting samples, labelling and keeping daily samples for testing for seven (7) days, monitor and discard samples in accordance with the organization policies and procedures.
  • Communicates and consults with the Director of Dietary Services regarding any menu substitutions if necessary and records and reports appropriately.
  • Ensures use of proper and safe food handling techniques.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS (but not limited to):
